Mrs. Beeton and me.
I'm glancing through Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management. It was first published in 1859-61.
She claims (item 1815) that "An excellent substitute for milk or cream in tea or coffee" is an egg! One per large breakfast-cup, beaten in a basin and poured over the very hot drink, very gradually and stirring all the time to prevent it curdling. Am I brave enough to try it?

Go on be brave ;-)
Sounds really awful though.
I've had smoothies made with an egg and they were okay but I still haven't managed the coffee with egg. Perhaps when my cold's better and snot is further to the back of my mind.
I imagine it would be hard to pour it in slowly enough not to end up with eggy lumps.
I'm still trying to not imagine eggy lumps.
